X Abstract

From the introduction: In this portion of the article, I explore the implications of the four challenges presented in Part 1 – (1) accumulation, (2) distribution, (3) digital stewardship, and (4) long-term access – and discuss (at least in a preliminary, superficial way) some promising technological directions and requirements for each. In essence, we need to arrive at answers for some very basic questions: * What should we keep? * Where should we put it? * How should we maintain it? and finally * How will we find it again? I then wrap up the discussion by reflecting on what it means to lose some of our digital assets and how we might think of digital archiving technologies from the not-so-lofty perch of our everyday lives.
